A friend in Las Vegas recently mentioned that she missed snow. Naturally, I'm a little bitter because in spite of our multiple snow storms we haven't had one snow day, but...

Here is my response to anyone in the warmer climes who think they miss snow:

You do not miss snow, you think you do but really what you miss is the idea of snow with all its romance and charm. You may miss the beauty of snow falling, softly, gently coating everything in a downy blanket of white - you do not miss shoveling said blanket off your car on an icy morning, or tramping through slush, skidding on ice as you walk to the train.

You may miss snow in the way that you miss an old friend with whom you've had some good times but whom is really a high maintenance pain in the ass (which is why your friendship drifted).

You may miss snow in the sense that you'd like to visit snow but not necessarily live with it. So, by all means, go visit snow - have a ball, go skiing, snowboarding, tubing, build a snowman, make snow angels, build a snow fort and have a snowball fight and then go home to your 70 degree weather and enjoy the fact that you are already pulling out your spring wardrobe while the rest of us are pulling out our backs shovelling.
